Ensign Peak

On our drive to Cherry Hill yesterday, Ryan said, "I've never hiked to the top of Ensign Peak."  So I texted Lucas and Shellie and asked them if we could do a picnic at memory grove and hike Ensign Peak after for our Sunday dinner.  They said if we thought Ryan could make it... it was his idea!!!  We didn't actually end up going into memory grove, we just had a picnic at the city creek park near by.

The hike to the top of memory grove was very memorable... with kids:)  The views were great and it was a good workout!!  Ryan made it with Terek on his back!
Brenner and Joren didn't want to be in the picture.

Cherry Hill

We took the kids to Cherry Hill on Saturday for the 1st time.  It was a fun water park.  We liked the lazy river the best because the water was nice and warm!!!

All wet

I took the kids down to the lake to "wade" in the water. Soon enough Joren was up to his neck! That kid!

Seriously, what is it about Cheetos?????

He fell asleep in his high chair twice today eating cheetos?  do they have some sort of drug in them?  why is my kid eating cheetos all the time?  well, because it keeps him from being grumpy.  and apparently makes him fall asleep.

If I ever ask you to baby sit, tell me NO, because my baby is too grumpy and you don't want him to cry the whole time.... or if you really love me and you know how desperate I am for a baby sitter, tell me that you will only if I provide the Cheetos!!!

Rivers... part of the I love Daybreak series

On the north part of the lake closer to our house, there is this cool river lined with huge rocks that runs into the lake. It is so fun to climb around on the rocks and wade in the water.

I just love all of the fun things they have done with the lake at Daybreak. There is never ending fun for the kids!

Rain, rain, go away, come another day.

We went camping to Huntington Lake again this memorial weekend.  Lucas planned this trip out 3 months ago for his family and ours.  It' s a really fun place to go camping.

Except that it rains on us every year.  One night of rain was enough for us, so we packed up and came home early.
Gotta love the little things that keep them entertained.

Terek turns 9 months

Yesterday Terek turned 9 months old.  He is such a fun boy.  It is so easy to make him laugh.  He is happy all the time!  He has just finished cutting his top teeth, so he has 6 teeth now.  He loves Cheetos and olives, but is still a pretty good eater about a lot of foods.  He's still not crawling yet, but I'm not going to complain!  He loves to splash in the water... he loves the tub and he loves the pool!

Hamster Obsession

So, the kitties next door are gone.... the neighbors gave them all away on KSL.  Now I don't have to have Joren up in the morning at 7:00 asking if can go to the neighbors and see the kitties.  And thanks for all the comments and help... I really didn't want a cat.

However, Joren has become quite obsessed with Tagg... Brenner's hamster.  He won't leave the poor thing alone.  He gets up first thing in the morning and runs downstairs to get him.  He carries him around everywhere.   Hopefully the poor thing lives through Joren.

Pre-school Grad

Today was Brenner's pre-school graduation.  What a big boy he has become!!!

They had a fun little program where they had the kids sing and read a couple of books.  Then they got their diplomas and we had treats.  It felt like he was so big.  He is very excited to go to kindergarten.

It's almost like we live in California

Kitten Obsession

The neighbors next door have baby kittens.  They are adorable... I must admit.

Joren is absolutely obsessed with the baby kittens.  He wants to go over to their house about 50 times a day to play with the kittens.  He wants to bring them over to our house to play with them.  The thing is that he's so cute with them.  He loves the orange on the best.  And he always carries it so carefully.  He puts it on a blanket and makes a little bed for it.  He is so cute with the little kitten.
PLEASE, please talk me out of letting him keep one of them!!!!!!

Caught Red-handed

So this morning when I was getting ready for the day, Joren thought he needed to get in the red food coloring.

Luckily he only got it on the tile, bathroom sink, his shirt, shorts and a few towels and washcloths... not the CARPET.... I would have killed him!!!

Field Trip to Hogle Zoo

Yesterday we went on Brenner's preschool field trip to the zoo.  I wasn't really excited to go because we had just been there with Grandma Rose and our cousins.  But we had a lot of fun.  The best part were the shows.  We had never been to any of the shows at the zoo.  But we went to the Elephant show and the bird show.  Who knew those animals could do so many tricks?

No trip to the zoo is complete without a picture with the tiger statues.
This is what we think about the reptile house.

Well Checks

We took Brenner in for his 5 year well check yesterday.  He was a brave little kid for his finger prick.  He wasn't too happy about the shots and we had to hold him down.

Terek had his 9 month well check (a little early).  He weighed 18 lbs. 12 oz.... that seems so huge to me.  However, those fat legs of his are only in the 30th percentile.  He, however, is in the 90th percentile for height.

Party On!!!

Today was Brenner's friend party.  It was at the fun new park by the lake.

We had a pinata.  Pirate face cookies and homemade rootbeer.
The hit of the party was a treasure hunt to find a buried treasure.
I'm tired.  Good night!

Big 5

Brenner Blake Scholes turned the big 5 today!!!

Brenner is a really smart kid.  He is reading really well and is starting to like math as well.  He also thinks he knows everything:)
Brenner loves to play with Legos.  He also loves pretend play and building space ships and such.   He loves to cook and is great at cracking eggs:)
He loves his little brothers.  He loves playing with Terek and making him laugh.  He loves playing with Joren...  and he still loves to pop him once in a while as well:)

Girls' Weekend

This weekend, for Mother's Day, the girls in Ryan's family headed up to Midway to stay in a cabin for the weekend and craft!  It was so nice to have a weekend dedicated to doing the projects that I love doing.

I spent Friday night scrapbooking.

I spent all day Saturday sewing (and got a little scrapbooking done in the evening).

Some of my sisters in law working on homework, some played games, some sewed and some gave each other pedicures.... I even gave myself a pedicure.

I came home this morning to a beautiful vase of flowers and Joren was so excited to show me my musical card that he ripped it open for me!

Happy Mother's Day to all of the mothers in my life.  Thanks so much Rosalie for putting together a fun weekend for us and for always planning fun things for our family.  And THANKS so much to my mom.  You have been so amazing at fighting this cancer.  We pray that the chemo has been working and that we will have many more mother's days to share with you.  You have been such a great mom!  You have taught me so much and sacrificed so much for me all my life!  I love you!

Meet Tagg

Tagg is Brenner's new Chinese Dwarf Hamster.  He got him as an early birthday present (thanks for the money, Grandma & Grandpa Blake).

He's a cute little guy.  He's been a little nervous today, but he finally made himself a little nest in the tubes on the side of the cage.

Rrrrrrrrrrrr

You would think that a little boy that is turning 5 in 3 days would be old enough to know NOT to draw on his computer.... And the grout in our tile! He has been awful this week!

Smith's Marketplace Play land

Do you need a break from your kids buy can't afford to pay a baby sitter? Or do you just want to go grocery shopping in peace? Smith's marketplace (I go to the one on 90th and redwood) has 1 hour of free day care. If you don't need to go shopping, just grab a book or magazine and go hang out at the deli and read.

Cake Decorating vs. Scrapbooking

This post is for Jacinda....

I have recently taken up cake decorating (thanks to my friend Jacinda).  Hey, I'm always up for learning a new craft.  While I was in the classes, I was constantly complaining about how time consuming cake decorating was.  Jacinda compared it to scrapbooking for me.  Okay, yes, I can spend several hours on one scrapbook page... end of subject.  That is until I had to decorate a whole cake from start to finish.  I made this lovely cake for Enrichment last night.

It took me over two hours to decorate this cake. (and I already had the fondant made and one of the flowers).  You see, cake decorating is something that you can't just leave and finish up the next day or the next week.  If you have to have it done by 7:00 that night, then you have to have it done by 7:00 that night.  Now, I should have made all of the flowers ahead of time, but that's my own problem with procrastination.  Needless to say, although I do like the finished product and I do actually think it was kind of fun, it's hard for me to have a craft that is perishable... I can't just work on it a little bit at a time at my leisure.  And the real kicker is.... no one destroys my scrapbook pages after I make them... not even Joren.

As a side note.  Glass cake pans are extremely heavy.  If you ever think that the church is only 3 blocks away and it's not big deal to walk that far carrying a heavy glass cake dish, just drive.  My back is still hurting from carrying that thing over to the church.

Oh, and I LOVE my BLOGSTALKERS!  Don't stop coming by!  I just want you to leave a comment every once in awhile!!!

Why do I keep going to ...

Wheeler Farm???

I swore that last time I went there I wouldn't go again.  My kids are scared of ducks!!! So, why do I keep dragging them to the farm where there are ducks and giant hissing geese everywhere?  Ducks and giant hissing geese that aren't inside a fence.  Giant geese (literally as big as my kids) that hiss at me when I try to shoo them away from my kids with a stick.  Have I learned my lesson yet?
